You’re in England, Hanna… They are called Chips.

Greeting fellow spudlings! I know it has been QUITE some time since I have written. Lets just say I have been gathering some new material for more blog posts. Or I can stop lying to all of you and just admit that I have been lazy and eating tacos instead. Anyways, my next set of travels took me to the U.K. !!! I had been so excited for this trip and believe me, I did so much research and asked everyone and their mum where I should get fries in England. The most common answer… Camden Market ! Let’s take a little skip across the pond so I can tell you about these babies.

Steakhaus – Camden Market

Okay, SO… These were truly amazing, guys. Honestly, some of the best food I had in London was the street food. Camden market had a crazy amount of food stalls and it all looked INSANE. I contemplated buying about 5 more dishes while I was there, but realized that I was only two days into my five day vacation and would have barely any money left! If you ever have the chance to go to this market… PLEASE GO!

These fries were nothing short of wonderful. My friend Laura and I got to the market right around lunch time, so it was incredibly packed, however, the one woman that was working the Steakhause stand was KILLING IT. While every stand had 2-4 employees and about 10+ customers waiting, the Steakhaus stand only had one young woman with the same amount of customers. She made the whole product, start to finish… I literally watched her put the potato into the slicer! That is why these nuggets get a 10 on the freshness scale. The only way they could have been more fresh is if she ripped the potato out of the Irish soil herself.

I always love watching a fellow cook do their THANG and do it with confidence. She started by cutting the potatoes, and immediately put them into the fryer. An effortless spin and step to the right and she was at the grill where she put a beautiful cut of steak on the flattop and cooked it to a perfect medium rare. While the steak was sizzling, she cracked an egg onto the flattop and seasoned it perfectly with a little bit of course sea salt. Once the steak was ready, it went onto the cutting board to sit for a minute before she cut it. Meanwhile, the fries got tossed with salt and plated. The steak was cut and plated and everything was topped with the egg, a bit more sea salt, pepper, and their secret herb sauce. Not only was my food amazing, but I got to watch it be prepared with absolute skill and care. She wasn’t even phased by the 10 person line!

I immediately dug in as soon as Laura and I found a table to stand at. The chips were hot and crispy. A few points were taken because some of them got very soggy in the extra drippings from the steak that did not settle in before it was cut. They smelled earthy, unhealthy, and amazing… just like they should! The seasoning was impeccable and the secret sauce really added a nice herby and slightly sweet note. It was truly the perfect balance of everything. A few points were taken on value. To me, street food should cost $10 or less, however, this did have a quality cut of steak and the fries were as fresh as they could get, so it wasn’t a horrible value. If I could, I would fly to England right now just to get some of these. All I can say is I am truly a #BLESSED lady. All hail the queen.

Thanks for reading, as always! Stay Salty my friends!

* Just as as heads up, I actually had the chance to make another fry vacation back to Pommes Frites in NYC a few weeks before my trip to England. Because I wrote a post about them already, I will simply leave you with this… I was not drunk while eating them this time and they were just as good, if not better. Best fries in NYC, hands down. Because my last picture from there was absolute shit, as it was taken by a very drunk 22 rushing to get to the subway, here is a new one. Pommes Frites Round 2

* Next week I will be talking to you about a new Providence spot, The Black Sheep!
